Peter Buckley Hill won't have enjoyed reading The Scotsman this morning — in a list of the nine best free Fringe shows as picked by the well-regarded national newspaper, only one of PBH's shows made the list.

The picks are based on being eight of the best shows with no ticket charge that The Scotsman has reviewed — although six of the shows only received a three-star review, and none received five.

Mark Cooper-Jones' show Geography Teacher at Cabaret Voltaire is the only PBH show featured, while Lewis Schaffer, Dusty Limits and Tomas Ford feature from the Laughing Horse Fringe, among others.

Good news for Bob Slayer's 'Alternative Fringe' at The Hive (which is backed by Laughing Horse), as two of their shows are included. Formidable Fringe reviewer Kate Copstick's stamp is indeed all over this list — she wrote the review of five of the shows that make the list.

The full list can be found here.

Update [02:00, 25/08/12]: PBH himself has taken us to task in the comments below, with a fierce defence of his festival's offering which is certainly worthy of a read.

He also makes two complaints about this post: the Scotsman list is of the best 'free Fringe shows', not the best 'Free Fringe shows' (see the difference?), and his name isn't hyphenated. We've fixed both.
